Gemotions

The soft glow of the bedside lamp illuminated the room. Michael felt utterly at peace. He’d just finished a long, stressful project and finally could unwind. Beside him, Emily, his girlfriend, was curled up under the covers, reading. The rhythmic sound of her breathing was soothing.

She looked up, her eyes sparkling. "¿Cómo estuvo tu día, cariño?"

Michael blinked. He'd known she was learning Italian, but hearing her speak it, so naturally, caught him off guard. He felt a slow smile unfurl across his face.

"It was… well, it was long," he said, the words a little clumsy as he tried to find them.

She placed her book down and smiled back. He leaned over and kissed her, feeling a warmth spread from his lips to his toes. The world felt perfect.
